Yay, we finally got one in! Weather was a bit overcast but plenty warm. Despite much belly-aching about potentially catastrophic early season play, only a couple of us truly suffered. Congrats to Jean and Soo-Mi for their chip ins. Soo-Mi’s chip-in was for EAGLE on #7! A perfect drive down the middle and then a hole-out from about 140 yards. It was a beautiful thing!
Happy birthday to Monica today - much to her dismay we did serenade her by the first tee before we started. Congrats again to Louise for her HOLE IN ONE (counts as a chip in too) on Tuesday. Congrats to Monica and Meg for their chip ins today as well. And Mary Gardner will be putting her Scotty Cameron in timeout for at least a few days, he behaved very badly!
Lovely day today! Course is in pretty good shape, you can actually tell the fairway from rough now and they actually have rakes in the bunkers (woohoo!). Congrats to those with chip-ins this week: Rhoda, Judy, SooMi and me (boy has it been a long time since my last one of those!!). I don’t normally shout out to birdies but Megan actually had two today and a beautiful round of 86.
OMG! The wind/pollen combo today was BRUTAL. Tuesday’s round was canceled due to rain and we only had one chip-in - congrats to Monica for that. She also gets a special thanks from me for finding my ball on the 17th hole. We all saw it land just short in front of the green but couldn’t find it. Finally, she looked in this random hole that was about 5 inches across and 8 inches deep and saw it. Not sure what made the hole but nothing bit me when I reached in to get it - small victories!
Summer is almost upon us, hard to believe. We are slowly adjusting to not adjusting outside our own fairways, always a bit of challenge early in the season. Congrats to those with chip-ins this week: Ro, Lynda and Soo Mi.
Um, who ordered the March weather for the round today?? We were back to multiple layers of clothes. No chip ins this week, nor birdies for that matter, which is unusual.
Congrats to Monica on her EAGLE on #1 today! Also, the ladies were making up for lack of chip ins last week. Kudos to Nancy, Rhoda, Mary, Monica and Condo for their chip ins this week.
Welcome to summer! Tuesday’s round was wet and today’s was steamy! Only one chip-in, congrats to Beth.
Looks like we had some great playing this week, despite the brutal weather on Tuesday. Kudos to Cathy Bo with the only chip-in this week. Shout outs to Mary, Louise, Mami and Patty (NT Rd) for their net sub-par rounds too. And Mary had a brilliant 78 yesterday, first sub-80 for the club this year! AND and both Louise and Meg had 29 putts, very impressive.
Kudos to Brenda and Mary for their chip-ins. And I don’t normally give shout outs for birdies but NICE ELLEN finishing birdie, birdie. That will definitely make you come back.
The dog days of summer are upon us for sure! Kudos to those with chip-ins this week: Patti, Beth, Louise, Condo and me. Woo hoo!
We only had two players with chip ins this week - congrats to Rhoda and Ellen (she had TWO).
Well the four ladies that went out on Tuesday deserve to have their heads examined given the temperature but today was quite pleasant! Kudos to the gals with chip-ins today: Ellen, Connie and Deb - well done, Connie’s was from 50+ yards out too.
Beautiful day today, we want more! Kudos to the ladies with chip ins today: SooMi, Deb, Patti and Monica.
Kudos to SooMi for the only chip in this week.
you guys SMOKED the field, shout out to Mary’s three-birdie round of 81!
Heard you had great weather today, yeah! Kudos to Lottie for her chip in on #7 (from the sand!) on Tuesday
I’m baaacckk. So happy you guys finally got a string of beautiful weather, well deserved. Since all players on Saturday are in the Cup, I can declare a winner for the Tuesday round. Kudos to Mami for the only chip-in, on 18 so way to end it!
Great time yesterday! The noise level in the Grille Room after the round was extra. There were two teams of twelve, vaguely “Italy” (in honor of Jo San and the 70th anniversary of BWGC’s founding) vs USA. The Italy team even had props, fake cigarettes, in honor of Jo San though not sure many tried to actually swing a club with one in their lips.
“Italy”, captained by Louise, won this year 294 its vs USA’s 280. The gross birdies that netted 6 pts probably did the most damage, “Italy” had 5 to USA’s 2. Great job Angela with TWO gross birdies on the back! Also, kudos to Angela, Lisa and Beth for their chip-ins. And Condo shot a 44 on the back 9, woohoo!!!
Shout outs to our highest point scorers: Patty Ruch (37), Connie Burns (34), Mary Gardner (34). Best holes for ITALY: #15 (32 pts), #13 (28). Least points: #7 (6 pts)
Best holes for USA: #15 (26 pts), #4 & #14 (24 pts). Least points: #7 & #8 (6 pts)
All players on team “Italy” were awarded 3 pts for the win, all chip-ins and birdies were logged in as well. Congrats ladies, though we are all winners in my book!
Only one chip-in this week, kudos to Angela for her chip in on #5.
If I didn’t know better, I would think Dyker was busier than usual today with out of towners in for the Ryder Cup. Word is getting a tee time anywhere on Long Island this next week is virtually impossible. Kudos to Patti and Lottie for their chip-ins - Lottie’s was another SANDY par (#6) too! Only one team wins today (but we’re all winners really). Congrats: Connie Burns/Brenda Meyers (68). Honorable mention to Patti and Lottie for their 69.
We had a non-team tournament on Tuesday. Again, beautiful weather and the greens are in the best shape ever (as in WAY faster than we are used to at Dyker!). Shout out to Rhoda for her chip in on #11. And the winner is: Low Net: Beth Olmstead (73, tiebreaker) - she successfully defended her title from last year! Rhoda lost the tiebreaker on the back 9. Also, shout out to Lottie for her net 74. Aside from Beth, Rhoda and Lottie, the rest of us left our game on another course in a different state.
Fun day, thanks for all who participated. For those that didn’t play, this was Solheim/Ryder format so neat to play while Ryder Cup is actually going on. Thanks to Louise for doing the cards so our collective heads didn’t pop off trying to figure out the scoring. And the winning team was: 1st: Mary Gardner/Katie Yorks (64, tiebreaker). Patti and Annette also had a 64 but lost on the match of cards (last 2 holes for each of the 3 segments). Honorable mention to Patty and Monica who came in with a respectable 66 too. Last year’s winners, Ellen and Lynda also had a decent 67. Nice to see Dorrit (Happy Birthday today BTW) and Dori returning to play and Ann Marie showed up to show support as well.
Blessed with another pretty Saturday! Man o’ man, Dyker greens are in perfect condition, much to the consternation of many of us. No winners to declare this week and no chip ins.
Well this week had its challenges, what with the 7th hole being closed Tuesday (finally putting up netting along 7th Ave) and today’s surprisingly not just occasional sprinkles. My hardiest congratulations to those of you who completed the full 18 today! Plenty of chip-ins this week: Lottie, Patti, Mami, Dorrit and Connie - well done you! The cards were a challenge today (between the rain and the pile of us that threw in the towel) but thank you everyone for making it work. And the winners are: 1st: Lynda Preziosa (66, tiebreaker) - WOW what a back 9, 4 pars and a birdie and the reason you won the tiebreaker. 2nd: Mami Kitamura (66) - good efficiency with spreading out the good holes between the two rounds.
What a glorious day weather day too, though a bit of a nippy start for some. Kudos to Mami for two 2 chip-ins this week and to Condo for hers as well. And the winners are: 1st: Patti Caffrey (55) - awesome round, starting with 4 pars in a row! 2nd: Kathy Condon (57, tiebreaker) - great job! Sorry Beth, you lost the tie on the back 9 match. Only two more weeks left, hard to believe.
Another beautiful day, just a little nip in the air and the leaves are in glorious color. While the course is in great shape, it was tough finding balls amongst the downed leaves so lots of time killed looking for balls today. Kudos for chip ins to Mary, Lisa, Rhoda and Beth. And shout out to Lottie for her SANDY today (a PAR despite catching a green side bunker).
Last one! Relatively nice days considering it’s November, thank you climate change. Kudos to Mary and Deb B for their chip ins today. And the winners are:Low Net: Beth Olmstead (76) - sorry Lynda, missed by one. Low Gross: Mary Gardner (90)
THANK YOU everyone for a great season.
